Facebook Beta Testing ‘Facebook Offers’

Facebook book has quietly launched ‘Facebook Offers’ for select brands. Once the brand has created and posted the offer – people can click on “Get Offer” at which time they will be told they will receive an email with the Offer information – finally you are prompted to enter your email address. When I tested this, my email came within seconds.

When you see an Offer on a brand’s Facebook Wall or in your News Feed, you can ‘Like’, Comment, and Share the post just as you can any other post.

Facebook is being very hush-hush about how long the beta period will last.

 akstout18  Hi AK -- I'm just writing up a blog post on this topic too, and found your post on a Google search while looking for more info on Offers. I'm amazed that we're not seeing more about this hot new "Offers" product written up all over the big blogosphere, eh? (We will soon enough, I'm sure!) I'm linking to your post and thanks to khansr for the tip off about Einstein Bros Bagels.

 

To clarify, how the Offers work is they are part of the new Premium Ads service and are paid for placement by the brand. Apparently, only about 25 major brands even know about Offers so far. My guess is that Facebook is going to officially announce Offers at the FMC coming up in a few hours as I write this comment!! :) Exciting times!

 

P.S. -- I deleted my two comments before this. Grr! Had to come back and edit, but can't seem to edit with Livefyre... and am also curious why you have your comments set to have to be approved? I'm guessing to keep the spammos out?! :)

 MariSmith  Hey Mari! Thanks for writing. When I first saw the Macy's offer the other day - I also turned to Google and just like you was shocked to not be able to find any information at all! Since the initial writing about Macy's, I've now seen Build-A-Bear Workshop, Einstein's Brothers Bagels, & Sears. Have you seen any others? 

 

I was guessing they were probably paid for by the brands but was hoping that wasn't so! At least I hope once (if) Offers become available to all, they won't cost too much, as it seems like such a wonderful feature!

 

Annnnnd, to answer your question about approved comments - yes - for some reason I have a terrible time with spammer comments and I can't quite figure out why. At one time the comments were set to post automatically but found myself panicking too often when I couldn't get in and delete the ridiculousness quickly enough!

 

Anyhoo - thanks again for writing and for the link!

Very interesting. I wonder why we saw the deal even at Greece (no Macy's here), was the targetting that bad or it was intended for everyone to see this deal offer?

 pgezerlis Hmm I'm not sure. I was under the impression that you would only see the Offer if you 'Liked' that particular Page because it comes across as a post. Maybe another Page that you follow re-shared it? I was confused by this today. I saw that a shopping mall near me posted an offer but really it re-shared one from Build-A-Bear Workshop. I'm sure there are some glitches since it's so new, too!
